This was a unique and fun place to stay with with my family. The location is amazing, the room was great. Breakfast and the bathrooms leave a little to be desired (hence the 4 star review) but otherwise it was wonderful.
A specific experience. If you are looking for something at a value price ($100 for the room), this was perfect. Art is tasteful. Staff helpful. The front desk gave us a discount upon request. There are some rough edges about the place: radiator heating, dripping faucet, soft mattress. If you're able to be solution minded, these issues aren't bad at all. We closed the bathroom door for silence and cracked open a window. The decor is what makes the place, and for the price, we were impressed.
We stayed in "The Suite" on the first floor. It was far and away the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel - ANYWHERE (across the US and around the world). For starters, the halls and hall walls have no sound absorbing materials so the echo of anyone in the hallways (footsteps, voices, etc.) is amplified. There was a group of about 8 people who entered the hotel at about two in the morning. They were clearly drunk and talking loudly and laughing in the hallway just outside our door. (Of course, there were no signs urging QUIET as a courtesy to other guests.) Once the hallway noise died down, the toilets started flushing. That went on for another 30-40 minutes. You might think no big deal until you learn that the hotel's vacuum plumbing was routed directly behind the wall situated at the head of our bed. The noise was intense and sporadic - the worst combination for someone trying to fall asleep. Then, about two hours later - around 5 in the morning - the showers started. Again, the spotty sounds of water rushing through pipes behind our beds was incredibly annoying - especially after a long, restless night. Finally, in the morning as we were checking out, I politely complained to the receptionist. She graciously took my contact information and assured me that the manager - who "pays close attention to customer satisfaction" - would contact me. Now, one week later, and not a peep. If we ever go back to Bratelboro, we will stay 20 miles outside of town before booking another room at the Latchis - a horrible, old, poorly designed hotel.
Classy historic hotel includes beautiful grand cinema, old style. Friendly and competent stuff.
Room was clean & the beds very comfortable. Generally a nice room. Now all the things that didn't make it perfect : There should have been two bedside tables with a light for each one rather than one table and one light total. It was hard to run the tap in the bathroom sink long enough to get hot water - - the sink backed up. We understand that the sinks are being replaced. Not quite soon enough! The room said "mountain view"... sort of true but rather (rather!) misleading. The TV was kinda small. We opted to watch a Netflix movie via laptop perched on a pillow on the bed because the viewing size was better! The staff were extremely helpful & their & the hotel's recommendations for places to eat were first rate.
